Trail Map

This is a photo of the trailhead sign. It is for reference. Info says this was a 4.5 mile hike but GPS says it's more like 8 miles. It's steep and strenuous and the last part is cross country/off trail.

Trail

The trail to Meysan Lake is "hidden" in the Mt. Whitney portal campground. You must park on the street and walk through the campground to get there.

Up, up and up.

This trail is very steep. This is a great trail picture which shows the terrain. If you look down the chute, you can see the trail carved in the mountainside (near center, to the right). Then, you can see the sandy, steep switchbacks carrying you up the drainage towards the lake.

The trail was soft sand/decomposed granite. You sank in and back with every step making it very slow going.

I think there is a lake in there somewhere. Maybe Little Meysan but it seems have turned mostly into a meadow!

Beyond the lake, the trail goes cross county and you have to follow the use trail and cairns to make your way.

Cliffside camp!

If you look closely, you can see my PERFECT campsite. I'm on a cliff in a nice bowl of decomposed granite deep enough for my tent stakes. It's perfect and the views can't be beat! *My tent is silver and is almost dead center of the photograph.
